Financing Your New Honda? Full Coverage Insurance Tips From Breakaway Honda

March 4th, 2010

If you’re buying a new car and want to get bank or dealership financing, you’ll be required to carry full insurance on the Breakaway Honda vehicle before you can drive it off the lot. Full coverage protects your investment and safeguards you in case of an accident. If you know how to shop for insurance, you can also save a bit of money in the process.

Full coverage for any vehicle you buy at a South Carolina car dealership means carrying the minimum liability insurance required by law, uninsured motorist coverage (when required) and other protection, but it doesn’t have to mean paying for extras you don’t have to carry.

For example, is there a towing or roadside assistance option in the insurance package? You may be able to save some money by not choosing that coverage for your new South Carolina car. Many credit card holders are already covered in this area and insurance companies don’t pay duplicate coverage claims. Do you really need that insurance on the contents of your trunk? It’s completely up to you, but if you’re trying to save money on your full coverage insurance policy, consider weeding out the options and keeping only the coverage you actually need. The new car purchase you make with your favorite Breakaway Honda dealer rep is an important investment; the right insurance coverage should give you peace of mind when you're driving on the Greenville roads.

Car Trade-In Tips from Breakaway Honda

March 1st, 2010

Trading in a car isn’t quite the mystery some believe it to be. When you take your used car in to trade at the South Carolina car dealership as part of your next Honda purchase, the dealer judges your trade-in vehicle the same way you look at cars at Breakaway Honda. It may be hard for you to decide the fair value of a trade-in car, but there are some things you can keep in mind when bringing the vehicle in for a trade with the Breakaway Honda dealer.

The age, body style, and trim type are all factors that affect the value of your car. Is the car a popular model? A high-end vehicle? Luxury cars naturally bring more attention, but to the average buyer, a used Honda family car in excellent condition is probably worth more than a battered BMW.

Don’t forget about the first impression factor either. A South Carolina car dealership appraiser may react the same way you do when you see a clean, sparkling vehicle. If you’re considering a trade, clean out the vehicle and give it a good wash. You may be able to have minor cosmetic problems repaired inexpensively; it’s a good idea to replace broken interior or signal lights, cracked fixtures, etc. Make your trade-in used car as attractive as possible and get a good deal on your trade-in.

Shopping for Auto Loans: Tips from Breakaway Honda

February 26th, 2010

Every Anderson car dealership has a different set of cars and bargains; banks and lenders are much the same when it comes to getting an auto loan. Banks may offer similar financing terms, but you shouldn’t accept the first interest rate you get. When shopping for cars in South Carolina, don’t just compare prices with your favorite Breakaway Honda dealer rep—compare interest rates and terms the same way you shop for the car itself.

You may rely on your current bank for an auto loan, but when was the last time you compared financing terms? Find out what terms are available from the Anderson car dealership or other financial institutions in South Carolina. Chances are you‘ll find a more competitive interest rate—or at least find someone willing to work with you to get better terms. A good deal on interest rates, down payments or the length of the loan could give you some room in your monthly car budget. When you get favorable terms, you save money over the lifetime of the loan, and that’s money you could use to for an even better new or used Honda.

When comparing terms, be sure to check three important areas—the interest rate, the length of the auto loan, and the size of your down payment. Larger down payments mean lower monthly payments, and a shorter loan means less interest payments. Any savings you can find will help your car budget.

Getting Pre-Approved for Your New or Used Honda: Tips from Breakaway Honda

February 23rd, 2010

When shopping for cars in South Carolina, dealers often ask what you can afford to spend. What’s your price range for a new or used Honda? You might think about what you’re able to afford when you look at Anderson car dealership sticker prices, but do you know the amount you actually qualify to borrow? It’s too easy to assume your credit rating is lower than it actually is, or that a few mistakes in the past might hurt your chances for getting a decent auto loan from Breakaway Honda. Don’t make these assumptions. Instead, get pre-approved for a loan on your next new or used Honda.

Pre-approval means two things. The first is that you’ll know exactly what you can afford to buy based on the line of credit you’re offered. It also means that if you do have a credit problem, you can work out lending terms during the pre-approval process at the Honda car dealership and still be considered for a new or used car loan in Greenville. Just because you’ve had issues in the past doesn’t necessarily make you a bad risk today. Don’t rule out getting into a reliable Honda, let the pre-approval process help you determine exactly what your buying power is.

Discontinued Car Tips From Breakaway Honda

February 13th, 2010

What’s a discontinued car? It’s one that has been taken out of production and will no longer be made after the final year. Casual car buyers often learn by accident that a certain model is discontinued, other times a popular model grabs headlines when it’s learned that no more will be made. Some people shopping for used cars in Greenville are after a specific make and model, such as the Honda S2000. Will fans of this car pay more to get one? Those selling discontinued used cars in the Greenville market with good residual value often get better value out of the deal—especially when making a private sale to a fan of that car. Depending on how long you plan to own your car, looking specifically for a discontinued vehicle at Breakaway Honda in Greenville could bring some advantages later down the road.

Many buyers want the steepest discount they can get up front. But some car experts say taking a modest discount on a popular discontinued car with a higher residual value can be a better bargain. A car that’s worth more when you want to sell it or trade it in for another model gives you more financial leverage when trying to get that next deal—but that leverage applies generally to people who own cars for a few years before trading them in or selling them and moving to a different vehicle. If you’re planning on operating the car for more than five years, residual value may not be so important. Get the residual value of a discontinued vehicle by asking your loan officer about that make and model.

Residual Value Tips from Breakaway Honda

February 5th, 2010

The residual value of a used car is basically how much the car is worth over time after it’s been purchased new, calculated as a percentage of the as-new value of the used car or truck. If you buy one of the Honda used cars Greenville has to offer, the price you pay is influenced by the residual value (and other factors including age, condition, and demand). Does that mean you should look for cars with lower residual value to save money on your next purchase at Breakaway Honda in Greenville? Not necessarily.

The advantage to buying a car with high (or at least decent) residual value lies in getting it new and selling or trading it within a few years of purchase. For used cars, residual value affects the price but may not be a factor when you decide to sell a few years down the road.

That said, when shopping for a used car, it’s good to know the residual value on a particular make and model so you can be an informed shopper. Is there a used Honda on the lot that has a higher price than a different model? Knowing that one used Honda’s residual value is higher than the other helps you understand why used cars in the Greenville market are priced the way they are. Some cars have higher value as used vehicles because of their extra features, better gas mileage, or popularity. Whether you’re looking for a high-value car with plenty of extras or just need to get from Point A to Point B, taking the mystery out of your car shopping makes you a more confident buyer.

Alternative Fuel Information From Breakaway Honda

January 29th, 2010

Over the past few years, the country has seen a shift towards exploring alternatives to gasoline to power their Hondas.  Alternative fuel-powered vehicles are slowly hitting dealership showrooms, so I’ve put together this brief list of the different types that are available now, and what could be coming soon.

Hydrogen: Most of the research that is currently being done in this field is how hydrogen fuel cells could power a car or truck.  If a car could run purely off of hydrogen, it’s only emissions would be water vapor.

Electricity: While a vehicle that runs off of electricity would need to be plugged in before being driven, there are many hybrid cars and trucks that use both electricity and gasoline to reduce their environmental impact being sold at your South Carolina Honda dealerships.

Ethanol: Ethanol is typically made from corn, and has arguably been the most popular type of alternative fuel in recent years.  Some vehicles sold today can run on a gasoline/ethanol mixture, though ethanol is not as fuel efficient as gasoline (you can drive further on one gallon of gas than on one gallon of ethanol) and is often more expensive than regular gasoline.

Most Greenville, SC residents are trying to do their part to reduce their impact on the environment, and Breakaway Honda is no exception.  We look forward to bringing you more information about alternative fuels as it comes available, and always carrying the latest auto technology at our Greenville, SC Honda dealership.

Breakaway Honda Gives Test Drive Tips

January 25th, 2010

One of the most important steps when buying a new or used Honda in Greenville SC is to take a test drive.  This step in the buying process really allows you to determine whether or not the Honda you are interested in is the right one.  I've put together a list of things you should do while test driving your next Honda around Greenville.

Before you even set foot on the Breakaway Honda lot, make sure you know what you are looking for.  Researching what you need before the test drive will help you to determine which car or truck is right for you and your lifestyle.  If you have kids, a big backseat may be important.  If you put a lot of miles on your vehicle, good gas mileage is probably something you'll need.  If you drive on the highway a lot, ask if you can drive it somewhere at highway speeds.  Make sure the car or truck will fit what you need.

Make sure that you can get in and out of the Honda easily, have plenty of leg and head room, that the seatbelt fits well, and that you can reach the controls easily.  It’s important that you are comfortable in the Honda car or truck you decide to buy.

Our South Carolina Honda dealership staff conducts test drives to make sure you find the right Honda.  Contact our sales staff by visiting our Breakaway Honda website or calling us at 888-407-0274.

Child Seat Tips from Breakaway Honda

January 19th, 2010

So many of our Breakaway Honda customers regularly drive with their children, so I wanted to put together a quick refresher post for parents of pre-teen children on the types of car seats children should be riding in.  Child safety is extremely important to the Breakaway Honda dealer staff.

Infants should be riding in a rear-facing infant seat during their first year and until they are at least 20 pounds.  They should then move into a rear-facing child seat until they outgrow the height and weight requirements.  Once they grow too big for the rear-facing seats, children should ride in a forward-facing seat with a full harness until they outgrow them.

Typically, school aged children should sit in a booster seat until they a regular seat belt fits, which typically happens between the ages of 8 and 12.  Kids should stay seated in the backseat of your Greenville Honda until they reach the age of 13 since air bags can be dangerous for smaller individuals.

We want to help our Greenville drivers keep their children safe, so if you have any questions about how to properly use child and infant safety seats, contact our South Carolina Honda dealership.  You can do so by visiting our Greenville Honda website, or by calling us at 888-407-0274.

Breakaway Honda Gives Roadside Emergency Tips

January 14th, 2010

Roadside emergencies are never pleasant, and sometimes happen to our Breakaway Honda customers.  Since they can be unavoidable, I’ve put together some tips to make sure you and your family are prepared in case you encounter car trouble on your next road trip.

Make sure your Honda has a spare tire, in case yours goes flat, as well as the tools you’ll need in order to change the tire.  Carrying a can of temporary tire foam will help if you have a slow leak as it should be sufficient to allow you to drive to repair shop.

A lot of stores have pre-made roadside emergency kits that are often satisfactory, but it's fairly easy to create your own.  Some things you should put in it are a blanket, flashlight, and flares.  Keeping these types of items in your Honda in Greenville, SC is a good start towards staying safe.

Always keep a charged cell phone in your Honda.  While using a cell phone while actually driving your Honda in South Carolina can be dangerous, having one available to use in case of an emergency allows you to call for help, a tow truck, or even 911.  Pre-paid phones are a great alternative for those that don't have a traditional cell phone plan.

While our South Carolina Honda dealership sells safe vehicles, sometimes roadside emergencies happen.  Ask our Greenville Honda service department about warranties and roadside assistance packages we sell, or that may be included in the purchase of your new or used Honda in Greenville, SC.
